I joined Florida Gulf Coast University in Fort Myers, Florida, in 2006 to develop a single-track program in multimedia journalism. The degree started five years later. In the interim, journalism, uh, changed. The economy tanked. And my students and I had the luxury of experimenting with different ways of telling stories. I paid attention to which students were finding fulfillment, and jobs, and I developed the curriculum accordingly.
Still, we’re experimenting. I’m committed to taking risks in the interest of doing better journalism. I have a passion for news literacy, multimedia journalism, and all-things-grammar and good old-fashioned writing. I love working with college students, learning with them as they understand the newscape and produce journalism.
I’m happy to share materials with fellow educators.
